All leaders in corporate America do a good job. Some of them are better than others, but in the end, the business owners, CEOs, corporate leadership, and middle mangers are just trying to avoid screwing up.
If these people weren't good at their jobs, they would have already been shifted out of the way. Those who get ahead are often the ones who just didn't mess up in a noticeable way. They didn't rock the boat. They kept their mouth shut at the right time.
The truly innovative and caring among them eventually get a black mark by their name because they are passionate about doing the right thing. And in doing so, they get left behind. One corporate executive advised me to do my "job and don't go against the grain." Another said I'd get ahead if "the boss doesn't hear anything bad about you in the morning briefings."
Can you imagine going through life like that? Why should you wait to be in the right place at the right time. You should create the place and the tme yourself. What you need to do is let the creative genius out of its cage and succeed on your merits, not on avoiding confrontations. What you need is a way to differentiate yourself so no one else can copy you. What you need is an opportunity for you to succeed in such a way that it cannot be ignored.
